A part of the wall is military area - entrance prohibited: so ou have to leave the wall for 2-3 km and hike through the countryside.The start of the wall is not easy to find,but by a miracle 2 guides showed up!
Some sections of the hike is besidethe wall as some short sections are impossible to walk.The wall is not restored for the largest part of the walk - that why it is intresting.
Accomodations in Jinshanling: Jinshan Hotel(Binguan)http://www.beijingimpression.com/Resort/Resort.htm.Be aware that you pay part of the price by the internet - but the hotel is not aware of that fact.Any way the price is so low,that is is worth paying twice if you have to.
